Today would be a pretty good day to give a little back. As many relief efforts have already begun, you have multiple options for donating: If I have heard correctly, Doctors Without Borders is already at work in Haiti, so the funds will be used properly. Also, Win and Regine from the Arcade Fire have some words on the subject, too (Regine is from Haiti). They suggest donations go to Partners in Health. Finally, here is Anderson Cooper's list of organizations.
I cannot even try to imagine the hell that people in Haiti are facing right now. Please, please do what you can to help. For updated information on the crisis, go to cnn.com.

Before you EVER donate money to an organization make sure it's legitimate! There are too many scammers! I HATE people who take advantage of others and scam them out of their money!!!!
Don't you worry, the one's I have listed seem to be fine. It is secure to do a donate through the Doctors Without Borders website. Partners in Health is in Haiti already working as well. And if Anderson Cooper/CNN posts a list, I'd say that's legitimate.
But you're right, people do need to be careful.
